We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. This is particularly important to us because its users include people we support, their families, professionals making referrals and people interested in working with us.
You should be able to:
- navigate the website using a keyboard;
- use the skip link to move directly to the main content;
- zoom in without the text becoming unreadable;
- use a screen reader to access most of the website’s content;
- understand the website’s headings, links and page structure; and
- contact us if you need information in another format.

How accessible this website is
Based on our internal testing, we believe this website is partially conformant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.2, Level AA.
“Partially conformant” means that some parts of the website do not yet fully meet the standard.
We have not commissioned a formal independent accessibility audit. There may therefore be accessibility problems that we have not yet identified. We do not want to claim a level of compliance that we cannot currently evidence.
Known accessibility problems
We are aware of the following accessibility problems:
Contact and referral forms
The visible labels on some fields within the contact and referral form are not programmatically associated with their corresponding form controls. This means that some screen readers may announce the fields without identifying what information should be entered.
Some fields also do not currently include appropriate autocomplete information, which may make completing the form more difficult for people with cognitive or mobility impairments.
These issues may not meet WCAG 2.2 success criteria 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships), 1.3.5 (Identify Input Purpose) and 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value).
We plan to add correctly associated labels, field names and appropriate autocomplete attributes.
Keyboard focus indicators
Most interactive elements have a visible keyboard focus indicator. However, the focus outline on some navigation links may not have sufficient contrast against the white header background.
This may not meet WCAG 2.2 success criteria 2.4.7 (Focus Visible) and 2.4.11 (Focus Not Obscured).
We plan to update the focus styling so that it remains clearly visible against every background.
Heading structure
Some pages skip heading levels. For example, certain pages move from a level-one heading directly to a level-three heading, and some footer headings do not follow the preceding heading structure.
This may make the structure of these pages less clear to people navigating with a screen reader and may not meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.3.1 (Info and Relationships).
We plan to review and correct the heading hierarchy across the website.
Photographic galleries
Some gallery photographs are presented as background images within labelled buttons. The controls identify the photograph’s position in the gallery, but they do not describe the content of each photograph.
Where the photographs communicate meaningful information about one of our homes, this may not fully meet WCAG 2.2 success criterion 1.1.1 (Non-text Content).
We plan to provide appropriate descriptions for meaningful gallery photographs. Purely decorative images will continue to be hidden from assistive technologies.
Documents
Documents available to download from the website, including PDF brochures, have not yet been included in a formal accessibility audit. Some documents may not be fully accessible to screen-reader users.
If you need a document in a different or more accessible format, please contact us. We will review downloadable documents and replace or amend inaccessible versions where reasonably possible.

Specialist Care Ltd is committed to making its website accessible.
As a private-sector organisation, we are required to consider and make reasonable adjustments for disabled people under the Equality Act 2010.
Although the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 do not directly apply to Specialist Care Ltd, we have chosen to use WCAG 2.2 Level AA as the accessibility standard for this website.
Based on our current internal testing, this website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.2 Level AA because of the issues listed in the “Known accessibility problems” section.
What we are doing to improve accessibility
We:
- check colour contrast when changing the website’s design;
- test important pages and functions using keyboard-only navigation;
- review photographs and other images when they are added;
- review downloadable documents and provide alternative formats on request;
- investigate accessibility problems reported by users;
- plan to correct the identified form-labelling, keyboard-focus and heading-structure issues; and
- plan to commission an independent accessibility audit.
We will update this statement as accessibility issues are identified and resolved.

It is based on internal testing of a representative selection of pages rather than a formal independent accessibility audit.
The statement will be reviewed following significant changes to the website and at least once every 12 months.
